I use the Create GUID tool quite often from within Visual Studio, so when I discovered it was missing from my installation of Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2, I was quite annoyed. However, if have the Windows SDK installed, there is a version for the .NET Framework 4, and here is how you can add it to the VS 2010 Beta 2 IDE:
- In Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2, on the Tools menu, click External Tools.
- In the External Tools dialog box, click Add.
- In the Title box, type Create GUID.
- In the Command box, type C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\bin\NETFX 4.0 Tools\Guidgen.exe, and click OK.
Now the Create GUID menu item is available on the Tools menu, and if you click it, you get the Create GUID dialog box, as shown here:
