Boot Windows 8 to Desktop

If you need to boot your Windows 8 to Desktop rather than the Start screen, there are several ways, all fairly well documented and/or implemented with third-party tools. However, you can implement your own little fix very easily, using File Explorer. Open  any folder in File Explorer, click View, click the Options button, and then click Change folder and search options. In the Folder Options dialog box, click View, in the Advanced settings list, select the Restore previous folder windows at logon check box, and click OK. If you have a File Explorer window open when you shutdown or restart, the Windows Desktop will be shown once everything has been initialized at logon, and your File Explorer window has been opened. I find it quite neat, because if I have a File Explorer window open upon shutdown, I mostly like to continue from the Desktop upon restart. 🙂
